Community comes together to honor veterans at Pikes Peak National Cemetery
In the days leading up to Memorial Day, more than 200 volunteers gathered at Pikes Peak National Cemetery for a tradition that has become a meaningful expression of remembrance and gratitude.
Working alongside Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care and Flags for Fallen Vets, volunteers carefully placed thousands of American flags throughout the cemetery, creating a powerful visual tribute to the veterans laid to rest there.
The event serves as a reminder that Memorial Day is more than a holiday—it is a time to reflect on the lives, service, and sacrifices of the men and women who defended our nation.
For Sonya Bergeron, Veteran Liaison at Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care, the annual flag placement reflects both the importance of honoring veterans and the strength of community partnerships.
“Flags for Fallen Vets has been a great partner, and we have had really good attendance from the community,” Bergeron said.
The sight of thousands of flags waving across the cemetery grounds offers a moving reminder that every veteran has a story worth remembering. Behind each flag is a life of service, dedication, and sacrifice.
Events like this are made possible through the generosity of volunteers who donate their time and energy to ensure that no veteran is forgotten. Their efforts help create a place of reflection for families, visitors, and fellow community members throughout Memorial Day weekend.
Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care extends its gratitude to Flags for Fallen Vets, the many volunteers who participated, and everyone who helped make this year's event a success.
We also offer special thanks to Tamma Phillips, Media Producer with Resilient Art Productions, for producing a beautiful video that captures the spirit of the event and the community's commitment to honoring our nation's veterans.
