Vernon J. Unger was a faithful husband to Mildred for 67 years. They have four children, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In his quiet way, he was hospitable and accommodating. After celebrating his 90th birthday in March, the family gathered at his and Mildred’s home for the 4th of July BBQ. The trees had grown up blocking the view of Memorial Park from their backyard. To enable his family to see the fireworks, he got a ladder and leaned it against his garage. He and his children, some grandchildren, and great-grandchildren climbed up and sat on blankets on the roof to watch the fireworks. He was pleased that everyone was happy and could see the show. He always had a “can do” attitude. We were all amazed and impressed that night! We never thought of him as 90 years old.
