Dad loved to play poker and drink his bourbon and Coke. He would always say, “I did my yard work so now it’s time for a drink.” Now every time I do yard work I have a drink and imagine him sitting right beside me. His first priority was always taking care of his family. When the doctors told my dad he was dying and knew he wouldn’t make it to Christmas, he bought a card and put my mom’s present in it. He told me, “Make sure your mom gets this.” He never complained or worried about himself, but worried about how we would be after he was gone. Now my mom and dad are together taking care of each other and watching over me. After 9/11, not a day went by that I didn’t talk to him about what was going on in my life. He was always there for me when I needed any advice or just lending me his ear when I needed to talk. He was not only my dad but my “bestest” buddy. I loved him dearly, and I miss him terribly.
