The most important life-lessons that I learned from my Daddy were never actively taught. He actually just lived them. My Daddy loved to camp and fish. Daddy, Mother and I would often strike out on weekends, accompanied by other families to go fishing. My Daddy was quite a storyteller and tease. When we went fishing and camping, he would warn the kids all day that there were bears in the area and not to take food into the tents. As always, he painted a vivid picture! Well, after the “big boys” had gone to bed in their tent, he sneaked up behind the tent (he knew they had taken food), and let out a loud growl. You should have seen their faces! Out of the tent they came, eyes wide and food in hand. We all laughed until our sides hurt. We all still enjoy that story and get a chuckle out of telling it to the big boys’ children.
Daily laughter was one of the most important life-lessons that I learned from my Daddy, one of the very special gifts he left me!
We will forever love and miss our husband, father, brother, and friend.
