Date Honored: March 2018
George I. Edie was born in Macomb, Illinois, and like many of his generation, the call to serve and defend the nation was heightened by the attack on Pearl Harbor. He would start his military career in the US Merchant Marine Academy, serving in the US Navy during World War II in Europe and Northern Africa. In later years and while in the US Army, he would once more be faced with the perils of war, this time in Korea. The progression of his military career would take him to serve in the US Air Force and he retired after more than 20 years of service.
While stationed in Zaragoza AB, Spain, George met Montse Bayo Guallar. They married and had five children. George was passionate about his family, faith and fishing.
George I. Edie died surrounded by his family and happy to have given back to the nation he loved.
