Rita Violet Alsup

Date Honored: February 2003

She had the most beautiful blue eyes, quick wit, brutal honesty, gave the warmest hugs and wasn’t just a Mom, she was a friend! My memory of Mom is doing the crossword puzzles, taking naps with her and eating her corn chowder. She made the best! I will always treasure my visits to see my Mom when her grandkids and I would travel to Colorado Springs. We had great times in the backyard cooking and playing. The memories that stand out the most are not of her as a Mother but as a Grandma. She was the “rescue” Grandmother who would receive a “Grandma, Mommy’s mad at me, come and get me!” call from her then three-year-old Grandson, and Grandma would always ride to the rescue. She almost never allowed the outside world to see the marshmallow heart she had inside, but her Grandkids were the ones to make it melt!

I met and married my Rita in our later years, but she gave me her heart and they were the best years of my life. We all will always love you!
