He was a hero – a pilot who flew with the Royal Air Force (133 Eagle Squadron) and flew Hurricane and Spit Fire aircraft against the German Luftwaffe. He was shot down and a prisoner of war in northern Germany. Bill was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame and into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame. He was a flight instructor in Colorado Springs, teaching the USAF Academy cadets who were to become Air Force pilots. He will be missed forever by his family, and all those who knew him.
