Our Mother treated meal times as culinary adventures and tours of all parts of the world. Everywhere we lived, whether in coastal Peru, the Middle East or North Africa, she dove into and studied the local foods and their preparation. Through local markets, her resourcefulness and creativity, her culinary wizardry introduced her family to diverse flavors and cuisines and presented a lifetime of fabulous feasts to her family. These triumphs, small and large, even inspired an ode to a chocolate cake she was known for! Her library of well-worn cookbooks and recipes are coveted treasures because they bring back so many memories – of a defining interest of Mother's, of introductions to new foods, shared times as a family, celebrations, and most of all, of how she showed her love for all of us.
