Edwin “Gene” Osburn grew up in a close-knit community and family in Texas. He shared fond memories of special times on the farm. He was a cryptographer in the Army Air Corps and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in the South Pacific and Japan. In February 1946 Gene and his bride (Ann Cockrell) moved to Manitou Springs where they joined his brother, Ozzie, and wife, Alice, in a weaving business. Gene’s flair for the artistic helped create beautiful woolen yard goods and neckties for wholesale and retail use. Gene and Ann bought a home in Cragmor where he was a good father to his sons, Gary, Charles, and Ken. He enjoyed his granddaughter and great grandson. He was a life-time member of VFW Post 4051 and a charter member of Village Christian Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus and a frequent volunteer. Gene’s favorite sport was fishing and family camping. After retiring as Pressman at Pikes Peak Lithography Company, he and Ann made frequent RV trips. He is still remembered by family and friends for his quick sense of humor and appreciation for the fun side of life.
