Inpatient Care Unit

Pikes Peak Hospice is the only area hospice provider with an Inpatient Unit (IPU)equipped to manage more serious care needs.  The IPU is a specialized setting that provides short term care management for patients who need hospice "General Inpatient" care.  This level of care is appropriate when a patient's symptoms are unmanaged and require more aggressive treatment interventions.

Typically, only those with the most complex cases opt for hospice inpatient care.  Many patients come to our Inpatient Unit until they are stabilized, and then return home.

Amenities

Recently refreshed  décor in common areas and patient rooms, and added amenities enhance patient and family comfort in the IPU.  Room upgrades addressed both functional needs and aesthetics.  Furniture and accessories were specifically selected to augment patient safety and convenience.  Elements of nature were incorporated to ensure a peaceful environment.

  • PPHPC replaced all patient and common area TVs and installed Wi-Fi
throughout the IPU.  Patients and families now have free internet access.

  • "Room Service" is available in the IPU, providing patients with more autonomy and control of when and what they eat.

  • Our children's area is stocked with videos, books, puzzles and other quiet activities for children who are visiting patients.  Children must be supervised by parents/guardians.

  • A salt water aquarium and two aviaries, tended by volunteers, add to the peaceful environment.

  • "Soothing Sounds" volunteers offer the gift of live music in common areas and patient rooms.

  • "Tea for Two" provides home-baked goodies and fresh tea served from a tea  service to lift spirits of our patients and families while at our Inpatient Unit.

  • An Ecumenical Worship Service is offered Sunday mornings for those who wish to attend.

"The care given to my husband was done with such goodness of heart and also with such dignity.  He was treated as a real person, not just a room number."
